Mount Elbert Panorama

PTViewer

Mount Elbert, at 14,433', is the highest point in the state of Colorado and is the second-highest point in the lower 48 states, after Mt. Whitney, the California state highpoint.

Mount Elbert is a straightforward but strenuous hike and is a very popular destination on any given summer's day. The summit is large enough to hold quite a crowd, and we met up with a herd of teen-aged summer campers who had hiked Elbert as one of their high (literally) adventures from camp. They left just before I shot this panorama, so the summit was relatively lightly occupied.
