Mount Katahdin Panorama

PTViewer

The summit of Mount Katahdin was socked in by the clouds while we were up there. It cleared briefly while we were on our way back down along the summit ridge, but was again clouded over by the time I set up for and took this pan.

We are just past the point where the Abol trail diverges from the Hunt (Appalachian) trail, and at a spot where previous campers have erected several of these windbreaks out of the granite rocks along the ridge. Nathan was happy to have even that little bit of shelter as I was taking the pan, since the wind was extremely strong and the temperatures were down in the 40s even in mid-July.
