Upper Meramec River, Wesco, MO
|
The Meramec River flows through eastern Missouri, joining the Mississippi near Arnold. In its upper stretches, it is a nice float stream and has trout and smallmouth bass. This panorama is taken near the hamlet of Wesco, MO. Years ago, there was a mill there. This dam and the remnants of the mill foundation across the river at the far end of the dam are all that remains of the former mill. The mill pond forms an ideal swimming hole with the high bank to one side and the calm water stretching a couple of hundred yards upstream. The dam, surrounding land and nearby cabin are on private property. Please respect the owner's property and privacy. The owner further requests that any fishing for smallmouth bass be catch-and-release to avoid fishing out that stretch of the river, which is all too easily done in confined areas of the river. This panorama was shot with a Nikon D200 and 10.5 mm fisheye lens. It is composed of eight shots in portrait orientation, taken at 45 degree increments, plus a zenith shot to fill in the sky above and a hand-held nadir shot to fill in the area covered by the tripod below. To navigate within the panorama, press and hold the left mouse button. Moving the mouse up/down/right/left will shift the viewing window accordingly. Holding down the "Shift" key will zoom in; holding conw the "Ctrl" key will zoom out. The panorama was taken August 26, 2006. It was stitched using PTGui and the high-resolution Quicktime cubic VR generated using the Pano2QTVR utility. |
If you have the patience and bandwidth to download a 3-meg file, the Quicktime QTVR file will yield much higher resolution than the smaller PTViewer file above. |
